The capacity of the Secure Digital is very high, only minor compared to the CompactFlash; before 2008 the maximum allowed was 16 gigabytes, while today they can get without problems up to 512 gigabytes. Is different for the miniSD, which can have a maximum capacity of 256 gigabytes, while the microSD not go over 128 gigabytes. Among the advantages of SD there is the impact resistance that guarantee: if a normal hard disk has a strength of 0,7 pound at most, these cards can support up to 4 pounds.
As the MultiMedia Card, these components are not based on male – female connectors, because their operation depends on surface connectors: it is precisely for this reason that they are so resistent. There is to be considered, however, the other side of the coin, and that is that the Secure Digital, precisely because of this special configuration, are not suitable, however, are little recommended, for applications that have to do with environments burdensome, especially with many vibrations.
